Love and The Secret Garden

Inspired by a post over at Imagination Station, I thought my kids might enjoy making a LOVE banner in honor of Valentine's Day.  We dismantled some pages from a Great Illustrated Classics version of The Secret Garden. (These abridged versions of classics are easy to find in thrift stores and fun for repurposing.) The pages were painted, and drawn on, cut up and glued, and strung together with pompoms and string.  Other than drawing the outlines of the letters and tracing some of the hearts, the girls completely took the reigns on this project, which over the course of days took on a life of its own.  In the end we made two LOVE banners, a PEACE banner, and two name banners to give to friends for Valentine's Day. As a bonus, it inspired us to listen to the free audio version of The Secret Garden on Storynory.

I love it when a project takes on a life of its own.  It's so much more about the process than the end product for me, but I love seeing these beautiful banners that were cooperatively created and remind us of what's important in life.  May peace and love find you today wherever you are.
