a day at the beach

Last Tuesday Sylvia and Ayla were wearing sweaters over sweatshirts to go strawberry picking in the morning.  Today, we only managed one box of berries because it was sweltering even at 8:00 in the morning.
By afternoon, temperatures were in the 90s (Fahrenheit) with very high humidity.  Nothing left to do, but go to our favorite swimming spot at Mill Bluff State Park.

After picking Camille up from play rehearsal we went back to the park ... right on up until dusk.
Inspired by my socially adept children, I even made a new local friend.  She's a yoga instructor.  Her and her partner have four children, and they have a farm two towns over.

Meanwhile, my kids were digging ponds and dams and singing and playing some sort of zombie tag in the water with varying combinations of children.

I see how easy it is for Camille to walk up to another kid and say, "What's your name? Wanna play?"  Sylvia transitions back and forth between joining in and doing her own thing.  Ayla loves running in and making a big splash over and over.  When Ayla tired of that she sat in the shallows singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to herself while she dug with her shovel and pail.

I soak it up.  The buoyancy and coolness of the water, the warm sand underfoot, the sound of splashing and giggling, friends and games and snacks and dragonflies. Life IS good, even without air conditioning :)

  1. Looks like lots of fun! The weather is crazy at the moment! It's all over the place here in the UK anyway!

I love hearing what you have to say. Leave a comment?
